Garment Care~
The following care instructions cover our products made from the following fine yarns:
Cashmere
Merino Wool
Cashmere
Cashmere is one of the finest natural fibres in the world. When new, the best quality Cashmere is not fluffy, but like a fine wine will improve with age. It will become softer and more luxurious as it is worn and cared for properly.
Washing Instructions
Cashmere knitwear can be hand washed or dry-cleaned, however we recommend hand washing following these few simple guidelines:
- Turn inside out to wash
- Hand wash separately in cool water
- Use mild soap detergent
- Do not use softeners
- Rinse thoroughly in cool water
- Squeeze gently. Do not wring
- Gently spin dry
- Dry flat away from direct heat or sunlight
- Under no circumstances should the garment be tumble-dried!
- Iron on reverse using a cool iron
Following these instructions, your garment will preserve its shape and luxurious touch for many years.
Pilling
After wearing your new cashmere garment for the first few times you may find small balls of fibre forming on the surface. This is called "pilling", and arises when some of the fine loose fibres tangle together to form these balls (or "pills") as parts of your garment are rubbed during wearing.
These Pills can easily be removed by hand or the use of a cashmere comb.
Storage
To ensure your garment lasts many years, it should be stored in a manner that will protect it, particularly from the ravages of the moth.
Garments should be washed before storage, and should be kept in a sealed bag. We supply your garment in a clear bag that can be resealed, and could perform this duty for a period of time. However, plastic zip up bags specifically designed for this purpose can be purchased commercially.
Storage drawers or cupboards can be further protected with the use of either mothballs or cedar wood. It is however a misconception that these are a deterrent to the moth, as in reality they merely attempt to mask the smell of the garment so that the moth continues its search for a welcoming site.
We would suggest the use of cedar wood rather than mothballs, as the more unpleasant scent of the latter may permeate into your room (and your garment), whereas cedar wood has a more acceptable and natural fragrance.
Merino Wool
Merino wool is a high quality yarn that provides for a clean and flat finish to the garment and has a less "furry" feel and appearance.
Washing Instructions
Merino Wool can be machine or hand washed, however we would recommend hand washing for the best care. Below are a few simple guidelines:
- Turn inside out to wash
- Machine wash at 30 degrees or hand wash
- Use mild soap detergent
- Rinse thoroughly in cool water
- Gently spin dry
- Dry flat away from direct heat or sunlight
- Iron on reverse using a cool iron
Following these instructions, your garment will preserve its shape and quality feel for many years.
